Job Description

DESCRIPTION

At Amazon, we strive to be Earth's most customer-centric company. With this focus on customers comes a responsibility to address critical global challenges, including climate change and social inequity.

We don't shy away from big challenges. In 2019, we co-founded The Climate Pledge, a goal to reach net-zero carbon by 2040. On our path to this goal, Amazon has made significant, industry-leading investments to decarbonize our operations, from renewable energy and more sustainable logistics to supplier engagement and beyond. In parallel with our climate work, Amazon has launched robust initiatives focused on protecting natural resources, advancing human rights, and engaging meaningfully with the communities where we operate.

Join the legal team that serves as strategic advisors for our sustainability initiatives as we build a better future together at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal counsel on complex sustainability matters
- Partner closely with the Sustainability Technology team to provide legal guidance on technology solutions that advance Amazon’s climate and human rights goals, including carbon accounting systems, sustainability and human rights data platforms, and AI tools
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Science & Innovation team to support research initiatives, data-driven sustainability assessments, and scientific methodologies that inform Amazon’s environmental strategies and reporting
- Work cross-functionally across Amazon’s businesses and with other legal partners to integrate sustainability considerations into operations and decision-making
- Navigate evolving regulatory and compliance landscapes related to climate disclosures, corporate sustainability reporting, data privacy, and AI
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts advancing Amazon’s sustainability goals
- Create and implement the legal framework for pilot programs and technology deployments developed by the Sustainability team
- Advise on governance structures and risk management frameworks for sustainability programs
- Provide innovative legal solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
