Location: 1618 Washington Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539
Schedule: Friday, Saturday & Sunday | 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM

Wage: $46-50/hour + signing bonus and relocation for qualified candidates!

Are you an experienced RVT who thrives in a fast-paced specialty setting and loves being at the heart of surgical patient care? Beacon Veterinary Specialists is seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgery Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where your technical expertise and calm, confident decision-making make a direct impact on patient outcomes and client experience.  While this role primarily supports the Surgery department, it also provides secondary support to the Internal Medicine and Emergency departments as capacity allows.

About the Role

The Surgery RVT is a licensed and essential member of our surgical department, supporting patients through every stage of the surgical process—from intake and anesthesia preparation to inpatient care and recovery. You will work closely with our surgeons, fellow RVTs, veterinary assistants, and support staff to ensure every patient receives exceptional, compassionate, and professional care.

Key Responsibilities

Early Morning Intake & Pre-Op Preparation

  • Triage and assess incoming surgical patients, ensuring complete and accurate intake documentation.

  • Place IV catheters, start fluid therapy, and administer pre-operative medications.

  • Perform blood draws, process samples, and interpret basic lab results to support timely surgical planning.

  • Prepare and review hospitalization and surgical estimates; communicate updates or concerns to clients when needed.

  • Support and guide VAs to maintain an efficient surgical intake workflow.

  • Enter and review doctor orders in the Instinct EMR platform.

  • Collaborate with the surgery team on post-operative plans and discharge instructions.

Inpatient Care & Mid-Day Duties

  • Provide attentive nursing care to hospitalized post-operative patients, including wound care, pain management, and ongoing treatments.

  • Perform radiographs, manage fluid therapy adjustments, and complete treatments as directed by the surgeon.

  • Assist with sedated procedures such as drains, laceration repairs, and bandage changes.

  • Monitor patient recovery and communicate updates to both the surgical team and clients.

  • Supervise and support VAs to ensure high-quality and consistent patient care.

  • Complete thorough, accurate, and timely documentation within Instinct.

  • Provide secondary support to Internal Medicine and ER when surgical caseload and time allow.

Qualifications

  • Active California RVT license required.

  • 2+ years of experience in a surgical or specialty hospital preferred.

  • Strong anesthesia knowledge, including pre-medication, induction, maintenance, and recovery.

  • Skilled in surgical prep, radiology, aseptic techniques, and post-operative monitoring.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clients and team members.

  • Strong ability to multitask in a fast-paced specialty environment.

  • Comfortable with long weekend shifts and adaptable to evolving caseload needs.

  • Advanced CE in anesthesia or surgery is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, specialty surgical setting.

  • Requires standing for long periods, lifting patients or equipment when needed, and performing physically demanding tasks.

Why Join Us?

  • Work alongside a highly skilled, supportive surgery team.

  • Opportunities for continuing education and career growth.

  • A workplace grounded in compassion, collaboration, and quality patient care.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you’re an RVT who’s motivated by surgical care and enjoys being part of an engaged weekend specialty team, we’d love to meet you.
