Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $38.46 per hour.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to manage all the physical plant requirements of a correctional institution. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for providing maintenance and required services to multiple buildings and staff residences. Additionally, the position ensures that facility equipment and systems are maintained in optimum operating capacity to ensure the safety of employees and residents. The position is responsible for various programs to include; Building Maintenance Program, Preventive Maintenance Program, Capital Improvement Plan, Energy Management, Grounds and Roadway Maintenance and Inventory and Budget. This position will supervise and train correctional officers and inmates and deal with other internal and external agencies.
How does it get done?
- Maintenance and upkeep of the facility buildings and properties by adhering to polices and procedures to ensure compliance with state and Federal requirements
- Participate in Upper Management meetings and planning sessions as they relate to the goals and missions of the facility by ensuring Warden is well informed
- Maintain facility equipment and systems at optimum operating capacity by utilizing the work order system
- Adhere to preventative maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity of equipment and systems to avoid unnecessary monetary losses and minimize down time
- Ensure key control and tool control requirements are met per policy and procedure
- Perform quality control through preventive maintenance program to ensure building systems remain safe and functional and keep weekly and monthly records based on ACA, State and Federal requirements
- Manage, coordinate and direct maintenance employees and review quality of work
- Supervise staff, making sure employees adhere to policies, procedures, directives and state regulations
- Complete employee evaluations for subordinate employees
- Assure repairs are completed in a timely and professional manner
- Approve requisitions for supply, tools, materials and equipment required by maintenance employees and ensure budgetary needs are met
- Blueprint reading and understanding of building plans, electrical, mechanical, and schematics to troubleshoot repairs that need to be performed

Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of heavy supervisory or limited professional level experience operating within strict parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency may designate that a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements
This position is designed safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends
